The Roc d’Azur in Fréjus: the world’s biggest mountain-bike event
Published on 2 August 2026 · 5 min read

Every year in early October, one event takes over Fréjus: the Roc d'Azur, the biggest mountain-bike gathering in the world, rolls into the Base Nature, a stone's throw from the Cozy T2. For five days, the seaside pine forest fills with bikes, race numbers and contagious energy. And even if you never ride, the atmosphere alone is worth it.
The biggest mountain-bike event in the world
In 2026 the Roc d'Azur runs from 7 to 11 October. Created in 1984, it has become the world's great celebration of off-road cycling: more than 20,000 participants and tens of thousands of spectators gather every year. The setting matters a lot: the Base Nature François Léotard, 135 hectares of pine forest, sand and Mediterranean, with the red Esterel hills as a backdrop. Hard to dream of a finer playground.
Races for every level
The Roc is not a single race but around thirty events spread across the weekend. There really is something for everyone: the international elite on the Roc Élite, amateurs on the Roc Marathon, families on the ride, the youngest on the Rockids races, plus gravel and electric mountain biking that fill up every year. You can come with your bike to compete, or simply stand by a singletrack to cheer: the mass starts, hundreds of riders launched into the dust, are a show in themselves.

The village, an open-air festival
At the heart of the Base Nature, the Roc village is the other star of the event: one of the largest bike and outdoor shows in Europe. All the big brands are there, you can test the latest models for free, grab a bargain, enjoy the entertainment and eat on site. Entry to the village is free: the perfect place to wander with the family, try an electric mountain bike on a discovery course, or simply soak up the buzz.
Much more than a race
What makes the Roc d'Azur so special is its atmosphere of a popular festival. You will see champions and grandparents cheering on their grandchildren, groups of friends on a cycling weekend and curious visitors who just wandered in. And because the Base Nature runs right along the sea, nothing stops you from ending the day with your feet in the water: after the effort, the beach is a stone's throw away.
In practice from the Cozy T2
The Base Nature is about ten minutes from the apartment. My tip: favour Saturday and Sunday, when the big races and the village are in full swing. Plan to park a little further out, as the area is very busy, and finish on foot or by bike. Good news: watching the races and visiting the village cost nothing. And in early October, the Riviera off-season is ideal: mild, bright and without the summer crowds.
