The finest beaches in Fréjus: your host’s guide

When my guests arrive at the Cozy T2, the first question is almost always the same: which beach are we going to ? Good news: Fréjus is one of the few resorts on the French Riviera where fine sand rules the coast, so no pebbles here like in Nice ! Here are my favourite beaches, tested and approved.

Fréjus-Plage: the great classic

This is THE iconic beach: about a kilometre of golden sand along the boulevard d'Alger, with a gently sloping seabed that is perfect for children. The seafront is lively: restaurants, ice-cream parlours, a water-sports base to rent a paddleboard or take a sailing lesson. In July and August, the evening market on the boulevard de la Libération brings the nights to life.

My tip: arrive before 10am in summer, as the car parks (paid in season) fill up fast. The beach is supervised every day from 9am to 7pm in season.

Base Nature beach: the wild side

Next to the Base Nature François Léotard park (135 hectares !), this large sandy beach feels more natural and less urban. A big car park (free from September to June, paid in July and August), a beach supervised in summer, and the Handiplage accessibility label. On windy days it is a paradise for kitesurfers, and the show is worth the detour.

A little bonus: before or after your swim, the park offers kilometres of trails to run, cycle or stroll.

Saint-Aygulf: a family favourite

About ten minutes away by car, the large Saint-Aygulf beach unrolls a long ribbon of fine sand with shallow water. The tourist office describes it as particularly suited to families, and I agree. Showers, toilets, snack bars and a first-aid post in summer (9am to 7pm): everything is there.

And for lovers of hidden spots: the wild little calanques of Saint-Aygulf (Corailleurs, Louvans, Pont de Bois, Four à Chaux) offer far more secluded coves.

Les Esclamandes: a zone for everyone

On the way out of Saint-Aygulf towards Fréjus, a long sandy beach is organised into zones: families, kitesurfing, an official (free) naturist area and even a beach where dogs are allowed, a rarity around here ! All of it a stone's throw from the mouth of the Argens and the Villepey ponds, perfect for a nature walk after your swim.

In practice from the Cozy T2

All these beaches are less than 20 minutes from the apartment. My favourite combo for a great day: morning at Base Nature, lunch on the Fréjus-Plage seafront, and late afternoon at the Saint-Aygulf coves when the light turns golden.
