Fréjus Giant Omelette Festival: 15,000 eggs in Saint-Aygulf

If there is one event I always recommend to my mid-September guests, it is this one: the Grande Fête de l'Omelette Géante (Giant Omelette Festival), in Saint-Aygulf, a stone's throw from the Cozy T2. Picture a pan almost 4 metres wide, over 15,000 eggs, a big wood fire and a guild in chef's hats stirring away to the sound of the festival. It is free, it is joyful, and it is a tradition I love to share.

A unique, free event

Every year, on the second weekend of September, the Place de la Poste in Saint-Aygulf turns into a giant open-air kitchen. In 2026 it will be on 12 and 13 September. Entry is free, and best of all you can taste the omelette for free, cooked by the guild's chefs. Around 2,000 people are served, in a friendly atmosphere where you queue with a smile.

15,000 eggs and a 3.80 m pan

The real show is the cooking. In a pan 3.80 metres in diameter set over a large wood fire, more than 15,000 eggs are cracked, with 5 kg of salt, 15 litres of oil and a whole bucket of herbs. The guild's Knights, in white hats and coloured sashes, stir it with long wooden spatulas, in a cloud of smoke and a smell that whets the appetite at once. A moment to enjoy with the whole family, camera in hand.

A tradition since 1986

The festival has been held since 1986, run by the Worldwide Brotherhood of the Giant Omelette of Fréjus - Saint-Aygulf, part of a network of towns bound by the same tradition. An old Napoleonic legend tells that Napoleon, passing through, so enjoyed an omelette that he had the villagers gather every egg to make a giant one for his troops. Costumes, the knighting ceremonies and folklore make the whole day charming, with that special spirit of village festivals passed down the generations.

The programme

Beyond the omelette, there is plenty to do all weekend: aperitif and refreshments, the knights' meal, a 10 km road race, a grand ball and entertainment. You come for the omelette, you stay for the atmosphere.

In practice from the Cozy T2

Saint-Aygulf is about ten minutes from the apartment. My tip: come early on the Sunday to watch the cooking and taste the omelette while it is hot, plan to park a little further out (it fills up fast), and carry on to the beach right next door. A perfect September Sunday.
